The only concrete criticism I'm seeing is the lack of maps, but more have been added and obviously the community provides more on dedicated servers. I'll also throw in that DoD:S did give a major improvement in hitbox fidelity, as seen here. In light of this, if the community was so displeased with DoD:S, why was DoD been abandoned for DoD:S? Some might be less newbie-friendly, but I can't see any serious issues - what do you think went wrong?Īlso, where is this community backlash? The original CS (same era as DoD) is still today more popular than both CS:S and CS:GO.
That isn't to say that grittiness is bad - DoD:S is aesthetically a very bland game, and could definitely be improved.įurthermore, what were these stupid design decisions? After playing hundreds of hours of DoD:S, I'd say that the classes are fairly (but not perfectly) balanced (yes, even the bazooka). Same atmosphere, same aesthetic, just a different era of graphics. What is this "gritty feel" you are talking about? How did it manifest? I've played DoD:S and DoD, and DoD just felt like a late 90s version of DoD:S - there was no change in feeling at all. What are your thoughts? Would you like to see this IP make a comeback, so to speak? Do you like DoD/DoDS? Why or why not? I feel like some sort of a "yes, we still care, here are some updates!" from Valve would really help reignite the game concerning popularity and competitive play. Is this lack of updates due to the game's popularity in comparison to Valve's other franchises? Does Valve feel that the DoD franchise isn't worth its time compared to spending time on CSGO and TF2 because lower numbers of people play it?
No actual updates have come along in quite some time (whereas TF2 and the CS franchise have obviously gotten quite a few, regarding all of the TF2 content and CSGO).
